Killer Beaz |
|
How Does He Do It? Night after night, alone on stage, no band members, no instrument to shield him, no props...just KILLER BEAZ and a microphone. The P.A. system serves as an electronic link straight from this man's heart and soul. The audience is swept away by the high energy passionate performance -- left behind, for a while, are the fears and failures of human life on earth. The only pain in the room is in the cheeks and sides of the fans. "Busting a gut" with laughter has its price. All too soon, the 60 minute set is over. And as the crowd, spent but satisfied, basks in the afterglow of "the act," it's easy to see why Rolling stone Magazine calls the show "Killer!" Eighteen years in the trenches of The Comedy Club Circuit have helped forge his iron will to succeed! After a move to Nashville in the mid-eighties, Beaz was befriended by TV stars, Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase, who gave him numerous slots on their national TV talk shows. This on-air camera time was great training for Beaz and helped him become a much used artist by TNN. His appearances on this Network allow him to entertain millions on a regular basis. He has written and recorded with the legendary Lynyrd Skynyrd Band. His hilarious racing video, "The Beazworld 500," is enjoying brisk sales coast to coast. The release of his long awaited debut comedy album is only moments away. Beaz seems to be poised atop a massive wave ready to "hang ten" and "shoot the curl" with his steely blue eyes clearly focused on the sparkling white beaches of success. What makes him tick? How does he do it?"I feel lucky and blessed to be able to make people laugh and smile." "My earliest memories as a pre-schooler are of living in a funeral home where my Dad worked in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Seeing the compassion and courage exhibited while helping people through a crisis of losing a loved one, is still an inspiration to me today. Dad followed this by serving as a police officer for 32 years. The man I admire the most, gave of himself daily. My mother, after having four children, went back to school and obtained a Ph.D.. From her I learned that it's never too late or too hard to reach your goals." "Some people may scoff at the concept of destiny, but I really feel that this is my calling." "I was funny as a baby! Got my first huge laugh at 2 years old when Dad accidentally sat on my head in church - brought the house down!" "Was voted wittiest and class clown all my years in school -- thought it was a curse -- Who Knew?" "After a decade and a half of show business. I've reached a higher level than just being a performer, I'm also known as DADDY .... WOW! SAVE-UP! If you're gonna have kids you need to build a concrete house with a metal drain in the floor, bust up all your good stuff, and get a tetanus shot! Writer's block is nothing compared to getting a 2 year old to eat his carrots! And you really have to be on your toes when you're with your kids in public ... Daddy, does that lady have two big butts?" Truett S Beasley, Jr., ("Thanks, Dad!") got his start in show business playing blues guitar in Jackson, Mississippi. "Beaz, as his friends call him, played lead guitar. One night, while playing a solo, someone shouted. "That was killer, Beaz!" The name stuck. So, naturally, when Beaz made the jump to comedy, he carried the name with him. And what a jump it was! Using intense desire and a belief that it was "meant to be" as a springboard, Beaz started out at the best place possible ... the bottom! "THE CHITLIN CIRCUIT" Biker bars, pool halls, country music places, and blues rooms all make up a string of one night stands throughout the Delta, known as "The Chitlin Circuit." These venues are completely lacking of pretense, with poor lighting, small stages, and a put-up or shut-up attitude from the audience. No gimmicks here, the only thing that works is pure talent, heart and soul. During his 317 performances in these trenches, Beaz's "killer" stage presence was quite obvious. So much, in fact, that he was a three time video award winner from SHOWTIME Cable Network before he ever set foot on a comedy club stage. Now a regular on several national television shows, Beaz has one of the strongest, most faithful followings across the country. He packs ‘em in from the Bahamas to Anchorage, Alaska, with stops in Vegas and about 30 states. Using his successful formula of high energy humor with universal appeal may be why COMEDY USA hails him a "One of the Top Four Comedy Draws in the Country!" "Save-up!" Don't miss an opportunity to catch "The Best Buzz in Town" ... you'll be stung for life! "Back home, we have a restaurant so cheap, there's no shakers on the tables, the middle of the room has a salt lick!" "I'm a terrible golfer, spent so much time in the rough, my ball hatched!" "Be careful on the highways, around here, the word YIELD means ... There's room for you, too!" He has been featured in Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Times, Southern Magazine and Atlanta's popular alternative weekly, Creative Loafing. |
