"Bizarre Comedy"
The
Amazing Johnathan, dubbed "The Freddy Krueger of Comedy,"
is known as the most original and bizarre act to emerge
from this era. His fast-paced razor wit and tornado like approach to
magic has made him a legend throughout the world. His impulsive raw humor and
abrasive wit keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
The Amazing Johnathan
is instantly recognizable from his record number of appearances on Fox's
"Comic Strip Live" (an unprecedented twenty-four appearances),
"The Arsenio Hall Show," HBO's "Young Comedians Special,"
four Showtime specials, "Late Night with David Letterman"
and he's been featured numerous times on "Entertainment Tonight."
In 1999, Johnathan starred in his own half-hour
special for Comedy Central entitled, "Lounge Lizard," which
became one of Comedy Central's most requested specials. He also appeared
in three network specials including, NBC's "Worlds Greatest Magic
II," "World's Wildest Magic," and ABC's "Caesars
Palace's 30th Anniversary Special."
Despite making regular
appearances on national television shows around the world, it's the live
show Johnathan thrives on. Rolling Stone Magazine dubbed him,
"one of the top road comics in the country." He was also voted
into the Review-Journal's "TOP 10 ACTS TO SEE" in Las Vegas!
Johnathan has
literally destroyed audiences (and stages) with a style that has been
described as a cross between Steve Martin and
Alice Cooper. This is
because on top of the side-splitting humor, The Amazing
Johnathan's show often becomes shocking and horrific! He combines
his magic with original special effects that often make audience members
hide their heads under the table. One second you're laughing until you
can't breathe and the next you're screaming because Johnathan's just
pulled the arm off an audience member.
Oddly enough, The Amazing
Johnathan's fans range from eight to eighty. His most famous fan
turns out to be President Reagan, who invited Johnathan to perform at
the 1986 Statue of Liberty Celebration.
Another fan of Johnathan's changed the course of his
career. Merv Griffin, who is the mastermind behind the two biggest game
shows in TV history, "Wheel of Fortune" and
"Jeopardy," watched Johnathan destroy audiences night after
night as the headliner of his Red Hot & Rowdy revue show in
Atlantic City. In 1990 Merv approached Johnathan about creating a game
show based around Johnathan's live show. Together they created "RUCKUS,"
the wildest game show ever aired. It was played in Atlantic City at
Resorts International in front of 700 screaming fans each day, making it
the largest audience in game show history. After seeing the wild pilot
for this show, NBC bought 65 episodes which aired every night on WNBC.
It can still be seen on The Game Show Network.
In 2000, Johnathan won Best Magician of the
Year by the World Magic Awards, which aired on FOX.
The bizarre humor and unscripted antics of Amazing Johnathan have
earned him widespread critical acclaim, including Rolling Stone magazine
touting him as "One of the best comics working today!" and the New York Times
claiming, "The faces of the audience said it all. It's unbelievable!".
Spontaneous magic tricks and impressive special effects accompany the laughs.
This show is suggested for mature audiences only.
