Kalan Porter has a combination of compelling voice, charismatic looks and star quality that had much of Canada in his corner when it came to final rounds of Canadian Idol 2. He triumphed over more than 8,900 other competitors to become a CANADIAN IDOL.
Kalan
Porter has always had a natural penchant for expressing himself through music. He is classically trained on violin and viola at the
Royal Conservatory of Music by world renowned violinist and mentor Michael van der Sloot. He also picked up the guitar and piano along the way. Shy and slightly introverted, Kalan's aged-in oak crooner voice, tempered with a unique edge, together with his musical charisma takes him far beyond his years.
Kalan was born and raised on a sixth generation cattle/buffalo ranch near the small town of Irvine, Alberta, Canada, which is southeast of the city of Medicine Hat. It is his rural upbringing that gives him the strong family values and work ethic that contribute to his success. His friends describe him as family-oriented, intelligent, humble, talented, a mentor and teacher, passionate about his music, and a person of strong faith.
Kalan's musical accomplishments are varied. From rock, to sacred, to classical. His talents go far beyond his vocal abilities. He is also an accomplished musician who plays the violin and several other musical instruments.
