Former
lead singer of the Temptations Dennis Edwards is a talented
musician and is one of the most gifted singers of our time, He began
singing at the age of seven. By 1961 he had formed his own group
"Dennis Edwards & The Fireballs." Later in 1966 he joined
the Contours.
Once a Temptation, always a Temptation might be the
motto for this explosive vocalist, who has joined, left, and rejoined the
group three times. Utilizing his unique style and smooth delivery, he
became known as one of the most influential vocal singers in the history
of pop music.
Dennis
Edwards was enlisted to replace David Ruffin as lead singer of The
Temptations in 1968. He spent the next nine years in that role, his
gritty leads fueling such songs as "Cloud Nine," "I Can't
Get Next to You," "Ball of Confusion" and
"Psychedelic Shack," as well as the groundbreaking singles
"Papa Was a Rolling Stone" and "Masterpiece."
He
left for the first time in 1977, returned in 1979, and left again in
1983. A year later he made one of the great duets of the decade,
"Don't Look Any Further," with Siedah Garrett.
Dennis fought in
and out court attempting to use varying forms of the name
"Temptations." He now has the right to perform under the name
of The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards.
Just a few of the many special appearances by Dennis
Edwards include guest appearances on Johnny Carson, Ed Sullivan,
Soul Train, The Joan Rivers Show, the Merv Griffin Show, Midnight Special, Solid Gold, BET, Motown's 25th Anniversary, The Oprah Winfrey
and the Arsenio Hall shows.
Dennis Edwards has fourteen Gold Albums, Five
Grammy's and Seven nominations for the Grammy award. He was inducted
into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in
1989.
Dennis Edwards' music has traveled with many
generations, selling well over 100 million recordings, some of those
hits include "Cloud Nine," "A Song For You,"
"Masterpiece," "Why Did She Leave Me?," "Ball
of Confusion," "Can't Get Next To You,"
"Aphrodisiac" and "Papa Was A Rolling Stone."
Ali Woodson (Ollie Woodson) is now part of The Temptations Review. Ali was a member of The Temptations for 13 years and lead on several of the Temptations' hits. And the Temptations Review show is now better than ever!
