From the moment Ricky Van Shelton made his recording debut in 1986, country music fans realized they were witnessing the rise of an especially gifted vocalist, one who performed in the sure and smooth tradition of Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, and Conway Twitty. In the years since he first charted with "Wild-Eyed Dream," Shelton has distinguished himself with a steady procession of such No. 1 hits as "Somebody Lied," "I'll Leave This World Loving You," "I Am A Simple Man" and "Keep It Between The Lines."
It is Shelton's unparalleled mastery with a song and magic connection with an audience that has led him to take home such prestigious awards as the Horizon Award and Male Vocalist of the Year from the Country Music Association as well as the coveted
Entertainer of the Year Award two years running from the TNN Music City News Country Awards, among many others.
Shelton's good looks and easygoing manner have made him one of country music's top video stars and the recipient of many awards in this area. His enthusiasm for videos, he reports, has led him to consider other forms of acting. In fact, it was during one of his concerts in Los Angeles when Ricky Van Shelton was first introduced to the producers of TV's mostwatched series, "Baywatch." They invited him to make his acting debut in a specially written episode which aired in May 1994 and was so popular that an additional episode aired. "When I filmed Baywatch, I really got bitten by the acting bug," Shelton says. "I'd like to do more – TV, the movies, everything!"
The singer has also distinguished himself as the author and publisher of children's books, notably the successful Quacker series. Shelton's first book, "Tales From A Duck Named Quacker The Story Begins," sold more than 75,000 copies. His second, "Quacker Meets Mrs. Moo," experienced brisk sales along with recognition on the Juvenile Top 10 Bestseller list. The third book in the sixvolume series, "Quacker Meets Canadian Goose," was released in September, 1994.
Ricky Van Shelton is channeling his energy into spreading his music. As an artist who has both led and
surmounted musical trends, he knows that great songs passionately sung are the bedrock for everything else. With his rich and resonant baritone, the foundation is definitely strong. Awards include --
