David Crowder (born David Wallace Crowder on November 29, 1971),
known professionally by his mononymous stage name, Crowder, since 2012, is an
American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist,
and author. He was the lead singer in the now defunct David Crowder Band, before
he started his solo career in 2012 on sixstepsrecords and Sparrow Records
labels.
He released his first solo album, Neon Steeple, on May 27,
2014. Crowder released his first solo single off the album, "I Am", on November
25, 2013, which rose to the No. 3 position on the Christian Songs chart.
Crowder was born in Texarkana, Texas, and grew up listening to a
variety of music genres, including Elvis Presley,
Willie Nelson, Olivia
Newton-John, and Bill Gaither. He attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas,
where he began his musical career. In 1995, he started University Baptist Church
with a friend named Chris Seay. The church quickly became known for its
innovative worship services and contemporary music.

In 1996, Crowder formed the David Crowder Band. The band released its first
album, Can You Hear Us?, in 1999. The album was a critical and commercial
success, and it helped to establish the David Crowder Band as one of the leading
bands in the contemporary Christian music genre. The band released seven more
studio albums, all of which were met with critical and commercial success. The
David Crowder Band won numerous awards, including 14 GMA Dove Awards.
In 2012, the David Crowder Band disbanded. Crowder decided to
start a solo career. He released his first solo album, Neon Steeple, in 2014.
The album was a critical and commercial success, and it debuted at No. 1 on the
Billboard Christian Albums chart. Crowder has since released three more solo
albums: I Can Hear the Heart of God (2016), Church Music (2018), and
Milk &
Honey (2021). All of his solo albums have been met with critical and commercial
success.
Crowder is known for his unique sound, which blends elements of
rock, pop, folk, electronic, bluegrass, and hip-hop. He is also known for his
passionate and energetic live performances. Crowder's music is often described
