Duelo is a Mexican norteño band from Monterrey, Nuevo León and Roma,
Texas. The band is also known as Grupo Duelo and Duelo Norteño. The group rose
to prominence in the early 2000s and continues to record to the present day.
The group was founded in March 1996 by singer, songwriter, bassist, producer and
arranger Oscar Iván Treviño and accordionist Dimas López.
Both musicians began as a duet playing in the restaurant of Lopez's parents,
located in Roma, within the Tamaulipas and Texas area, on the border of Mexico
with the United States. The song that brought the singer to prominence was "Si
Acaso me Escuchas".

The group is widely considered the most important and with the greatest growth
within its genre in recent years in all of Mexico and the United States: proof
of this are its nominations for awards such as the Latin Grammy and the sold-out
crowds in different venues from both countries, breaking attendance
records.
Already with a career in full swing, Duelo continues to work and reap
successes, increasing the number of their fans and offering them the best
in each of their presentations and in their productions. This is how they
launched Para Sobrevivir, their third record production that contains 12
songs, all of them written by Oscar Ivan Trevio, vocalist of the group.
In 2007, Duelo is again nominated for a Billboard Award for Best Regional
Mexican Song.
Duelo was invited for the second time by the organizers of the Livestock
Show and Rodeo to headline the Tejano Day celebration on March 16, 2008, at
Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, packing the stadium as rarely seen, having
the attendance record of the place with more than 72 thousand people,
which is why the group recorded an album and a live dvd for such a memorable
occasion.
On March 1, 2008, the original group from Roma, Texas, receives the title of
Distinguished Guest and the keys to the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas,
recognition that they shared with Ramón Ayala and his Bravos del Norte.
In December 2009, they released the album, Necesito Mas de Ti, an album that just
a few days after its debut release ranked first in national sales in the United
States above Nigga, Daddy Yankee and Vicente Fernandez. Even the magazine
Billboard in Spanish published an article where Duelo monopolized the
first place of the Top Latin Albums and of the Regional Mexican Albums list for
said material, from which the song Pobre Loco emerged as the first single and
which quickly placed in the first places of popularity in the radio charts.
In this 2020, "A Punto de Empezar", a song written by Óscar Iván Treviño,
premiered simultaneously on the radio in Mexico and the USA, managing to be one of the most popular songs.
