The only Rock en Español group to be awarded an
R.I.A.A. certified gold record for sales in the U.S. over 500,000
copies (¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños? - 700,000 units), Mana is
closing in on the mark once again with "Sueños
Líquidos."
Released in the fall of 1997, the album sold more
than 400,000 copies in the U.S. (more than 1 million worldwide),
becoming the first Rock En Español record to ever chart on Billboard's
Top 200 album chart. This is not the only barrier Mana has
been able to shatter with "Sueños
Líquidos." Even with traditional Latin radio being slow to
embrace Rock en Español, "Como Dueles en Los Labios," the
second single from "Sueños
Líquidos," reached the #2 position on Billboard's "Hot
Latin Tracks" radio chart - the highest ever charting Rock en
Español track by far.
Mexican pop-rockers Mana are considered the
kings of Latino rock and have a huge following in the United States.
Their sound is comprised of hard rock, more mellow pop sounds, and
hints of calypso and reggae. Their lush sound captured the first
annual Latin Grammy Awards in fall 2000 for Mana. They won the
award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for
"Se Me Olvido Otra Vez" from their 1999 release "MTV
Unplugged."
