by Aaron Freeman and Mickey Melchiondo, better known by their respective stage
names, Gene and Dean Ween.
Ween is known for its far-reaching musical approach, which takes

alternative rock

Both Freeman and Melchiondo have stated several times that one of the band's
biggest influences was Prince. Other stated influences include The
Beatles, Parliament-Funkadelic, the Butthole Surfers, Pink Floyd, the Dead
Kennedys, Laurie Anderson, The Allman Brothers Band, James Brown,
Devo, and
Earth, Wind and
Fire.
In concert, Ween has frequently covered songs by David Bowie, Led
Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Neil
Young, Motörhead, Van Halen, The Doors, Frank Sinatra, and
Billy Joel.
